Description
This is an older Hardy Brothers St. George Jr. fishing reel with an extra spool in excellent condition.I do not know much about fishing reels though I recognize quality when I see it. I discovered this reel at the estate of a collector and I know nothing about it's history.
I will attempt to describe the reel from what I see here and my limited research.
This is the Hardy St. George Jr. reel measuring 2 9/16" in diameter and weighing 3.6 ounces with the spool. I don't know the date of manufacture though I would guess pre WWII based on some of the characteristics of the reel. It has ribbed foot which was patented in 1928 I believe. It also has the leaded finish which shows normal wear and polish from handling. All of the parts appear original and they move and work as they should.
I have not cleaned this reel as I know you tackle folks have strong opinions about the original condition. I did wipe the reel down with a soft cloth and used a gentle cleaner to remove some sticker residue from the solid side of the reel. There is rope knurling on the edges of the frame and the reel is very smooth with a gentle click when turned, (the wind is right handed). The original spool has 3 screws holding the keeper on and the spare has two. My understanding is the 3 screw version helps date the reel and the 2 screw spool may be a later spare.
There is a small spot of blistering on the inside of the spare spool as can be seen in image #6 (3 o'clock on the left hand spool). There is no agate within the bezel and it appears to be nickel silver. The reel is very smooth to operate and I think it would make a wonderful addition to any collection of fine fishing reels.
Please look at the above images, they show more detail than I can describe here.
Shipping to the USA will be via priority mail. International buyers I will ship to your preference and this reel weighs about 1-2 pounds packed. I also combine shipping in an effort to save you money.
